Microsoft Lists: The Evolution of SharePoint Lists

SharePoint Lists has played a pivotal role in building customised solutions on top of SharePoint making SharePoint not just a CRM or DMs but a development platform for developing solutions delivering a wide range of business scenarios. Every SharePoint developer/end-user have used lists in one way or another whether it’s just for creating announcements/tasks or storing complex relational data for an application.

But when it comes to list-based scenarios that include share, track and view list-based information, SharePoint Lists out of the box fall short and require some customisation by developers to fulfil business requirements. In order to fill the gap, Microsoft introduced the launch of a new tool in the Microsoft365 world called Microsoft Lists at the MS Built Conference 2020. According to Microsoft, Lists “makes it simple to create, share and track data and information,” and will offer features like issue tracking and status reporting from within Teams and SharePoint.

Today, we are going to take a good look at this new and shiny tool of Microsoft and how it compares against the SharePoint Lists.

Building a SAP Crystal Report with SharePoint list data: How To

When it comes to a reporting solution, Crystal Reports is the de facto standard in the reporting world.

In this blog we will cover how we can generate a Crystal report based on data from a SharePoint List. To do this we will first export the data from the SharePoint list to SQL Server using SQList. Once the data is exported in SQL Server, we will use Crystal Reports to create reports using the exported data. The data export process from SharePoint lists to SQL Server can be configured to be either a continuous process or an On-demand one. So, you can choose either from them depending whether you want the generated reports to be in sync as any point of time or only at specific time.
