Hello Reader,

Welcome to another exciting issue of our monthly Newsletter!

Each month, we try our best to bring to you content that is relevant and beneficial for you. So, if you would like us to cover any specific SQList feature or if you want to learn more about any SharePoint feature then please do let us know.

What has AxioWorks been up to?

After the successful release of SQList 7.0, the primary focus this month was to get some feedback on the new features and to finalize the feature roadmap for the next release which is planned for the end of July. All our hard work was duly paid off by some very positive feedback from the community and the overall consensus is that the new features have improved the overall user experience and unlocked some use case scenarios which were difficult to implement previously, like Column selection.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can find all the details in our blog article: New version of AxioWorks SQList released (7.0.0.0)

Furthermore, team expansion is on the horizon and we are working on expanding our team with the addition of one Developer and one Sales Manager to join our awesome team.

Focus blog entry: Mover, One-stop shop for your Cloud Content Migration to SharePoint

One of the biggest conundrums of any organization planning to move to SharePoint is how to move all content stored in one or more locations efficiently to SharePoint. This becomes even more important if the company wants to use SharePoint as a document management system which is one of the strongest features of SharePoint. Microsoft understood the pressing need of having a consolidated migration tool to ease the process of migration and has acquired Mover.io which is now part of the O365 products and is now available in SharePoint Migration Manager.

Read all about it in this month’s article: Mover: Only Migration tool you will ever need to move your cloud content to SharePoint.

SQList feature of the month: Column selector

In SQList 7.0, we have introduced a great new feature that provides a capability to include, exclude, and rename columns exported by SQList for individual lists. This feature is very useful in situations where you need to export a particular column for a list that would otherwise be excluded by default. This feature can be accessed from the replication list where you can select a list in the desired replication and click on Select columns. From here you can:

  • Change whether a column is included or excluded by SQList in the exported SQL table;
  • Change the name of the SQL column generated by SQList.

If you want to know more details about this feature, check out the video blog explaining how it works: AxioWorks SQList Column Selector

by Danish Ali Detho | O365 & Power Platform Solution Architect///

One of the biggest conundrum of any organization planning to move to SharePoint is how to move all their documents stored in various different locations to efficiently to SharePoint. This becomes even more important if the company wants to use SharePoint as a document management system which is one of the strongest features of SharePoint. In past, you had to use a combination of third-party tools to move all the files to SharePoint if they are stored both in-network shared drives and SaaS platforms like Box or Google drive.  Microsoft understood the pressing need of having a consolidated migration tool to ease the process of migration and has acquired Mover which is now part of the O365 products and is now available in SharePoint Migration Manager. In this article, we will have a quick look at Migration Manager and then Mover and how we can use to migrate files from Google Drive to SharePoint.

Form Configuration Editor: Lightweight and Built-in SharePoint List Form editor

[*SP] Lists provides an easy and robust way of storing and manipulating data in SharePoint.  When you set up a new custom list, you also get OOTB data entry forms to perform CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations easily. However, most of the time we will need to customize those OOTB forms in order to make them more user-friendly for business users or implement some business rules to control the User interface. Previously, The only way to customize List forms was by using [*PAPPS] but now Microsoft has introduced a new built-in form editor to do some quick customizations without using Power Apps or any other external tool.  Today we will look at essentially what we can or can’t do by form editor feature and we will be using an Issue Tracker List scenario.

SharePoint Syntex : A Collaboration between Knowledge worker and AI

by Danish Ali Detho | O365 & Power Platform Solution Architect///

Background

The use of SharePoint among knowledge workers has significantly increased over time which also increases the reliance of business users on it to make decisions. The content which is getting generated in SharePoint is only useful if business users can make sense of it and understand it in a timely manner and artificial intelligence is the key to improving the efficiency of understanding and processing unstructured content. This can only be achieved through a partnership between knowledge workers and artificial intelligence and in order to facilitate it Microsoft launched Project Cortex at last year’s ignite which focuses on bringing native AI in the world of SharePoint and SharePoint Syntex is the first product to emerge from Project Cortex.

Microsoft Lists: The Evolution of SharePoint Lists

SharePoint Lists has played a pivotal role in building customised solutions on top of SharePoint making SharePoint not just a CRM or DMs but a development platform for developing solutions delivering a wide range of business scenarios. Every SharePoint developer/end-user have used lists in one way or another whether it’s just for creating announcements/tasks or storing complex relational data for an application.

But when it comes to list-based scenarios that include share, track and view list-based information, SharePoint Lists out of the box fall short and require some customisation by developers to fulfil business requirements. In order to fill the gap, Microsoft introduced the launch of a new tool in the Microsoft365 world called Microsoft Lists at the MS Built Conference 2020. According to  Microsoft, Lists “makes it simple to create, share and track data and information,” and will offer features like issue tracking and status reporting from within Teams and SharePoint.

Today, we are going to take a good look at this new and shiny tool of Microsoft and how it compares against the SharePoint Lists.
